Warborough

Warborough spreads along the A329 Wallingford to Thame road just north of Shillingford and the most attractive part of the village, behind St Laurence's Church, is the Village Green. In front of the Six Bells public house the Green is particularly attractive but unfortunately is often spoilt by the many cars parked there, but beyond that the Green is used for cricket and football and it affords a fine view out over the countryside. The name 'Warborough' apparently means a watch or look-out hill.

In the centre of the village, the church has an attractive tower which is prominently dated 1666 (the year the church was built). It is a three-stage and has a chequerwork decoration on the buttresses. St Laurence's is an aisleless church, the nave and chancel being in one with a south transept and porch. There was at one time a minstrels' gallery.

Warborough has two village halls. One, the St. Laurence hall, was once the village church school and the other, the Greet Memorial Hall, was once used by the Greet family for theatrical plays. Near the Greet Memorial Hall is a village well.

Warborough is home to the annual Warborough & Shillingford Festival has been held for many years on the Green with the aim of providing three days of entertainment, fun and the opportunity to raise funds for good causes.
