Longworth
The
small village of Longworth lies just off a quiet lane
that runs parallel with the busy A420 Oxford to Swindon
road, a mile west of the A415 and Kingston Bagpuize/Southmoor and a couple of miles south of
the River Thames.
The
village is situated on a ridge known as the Golden Ridge
and the land drops away to the north to the river Thames.
Longworth was originally known merely as the village of
Worth, meaning an enclosure, but the prefix Long was added
to describe its narrow shape.
The
oldest building in the village is the parish church, St.
Mary's, part of which was constructed in the 12th century.
